Using a specialist IT recruitment agency is just the same as using other product or service based business; your success depends upon their integrity, and of course, your integrity depends upon their recruiting staff. Sometimes, IT recruitment agencies can revolve around the somewhat hurried hiring of less than adequate professionals, and if you end up hiring the wrong candidate then your reputation and business can quickly suffer.
When you recruit, you need to consider your long-term goals for the role you intend to recruit. Find an agency that specialises in IT if that is the role you are recruiting. It will save you an enormous amount of time and frustration later. A specialist IT recruitment agency worth their salt should work directly on your behalf and guide you towards that end.
When you approach your dedicated recruitment consultant, ask and expect to get reasonable time frames it will take to interview. Your recruitment consultant should get a good feel and be understanding of your specific requirements for the position you are hiring, and be including your working environment. They should be reasonably accurate to determine the approximate timescales to search and find suitable candidates, screen and filter out inappropriate candidates ready for the interview.
Do you have a budget?
Of course, it is dependent upon budgets and skills availability. Just remember if you really want someone cheap, you might be better off going down the intern route or hire an apprentice. Skills and experience don’t generally come cheap unless the market is saturated with those particular skills. Sticking with market rates from salary surveys can be a deciding factor whether to proceed.

Usually, it is based on a percentage of the first year’s salary, but this is not always the case, as some agencies use a fixed rate, retainer rates or other ways of upping to costs.
