CV Screening Services
Screening each and every CV to ensure a perfect match to your job description takes an enormous amount of time. Once the initial screening has taken place there are several other screening processes afterwards until the very last time to screen even further. Literally going through each and every CV with a fine tooth comb. The reason we do CV screening is to check for inconsistencies and to progress to the next stage. Screening takes account of employment dates, job titles, duties being performed and responsibilities, education and professional qualifications, personal profiles etc. and/or clubs, social activities and memberships relevant to the position.
These are the steps we take to ensure quality screening
- Relevancy of the CV to the role i.e. Coding in PHP mentioned when shortlisting for a Web Developer coding in PHP
- Location of the candidate and commutable distances
- No overlap or contradictory employment and educational declaration
- Gaps in the CV are properly assessed and explained
- Experience, aptitude and knowledge is considered
CV screening passes only when the above has been completed, three piles are created; CV screening passed, not sure, CV screening not passed.
Initial Phone Call
During the CV screening process, candidates that have passed the screening process are called to discuss their employment history, education, their interests, career aspirations and to discover what they have been done recently. We do this for candidates that we’re not sure about, as we do not want to discount potentially good candidates.
References are important, however, it is important to make sure candidates are able to provide professional references. Personal references are generally not considered.
Telephone interviews can be combined with the screening process, but this only works if you know the right questions to ask. Any recruitment consultant will know the right questions to ask in general terms. However, it is most effective when a recruitment consultant has inside knowledge of the role and industry allowing them to whittle out unsuitable candidates from the start, and why our recruitment consultants worked in the IT industry for many years previously.
A good telephone interview for each role will have an interview questionnaire allowing the candidate to be tested over the phone. This identifies the following: communication skills, technical ability for the job. Depending on how the questionnaire has been structured you can also include customer service scenarios or any other relevant scenarios to ensure a good match.
At this point during the screening process, references are taken and made ready for reference checks against their employment history. Reference checks are important as they provide professional insights to a candidates abilities and attitude towards their work, life and play, and validates many other areas including the dates disclosed on the CV.
Each of the above processes swallows-up time in enormous chunks, unfortunately, nothing can be done to shorten down the time it takes, as it is an investment we make for our clients, and repeat for each candidate.
